Contractors that are licensed in Oregon must complete Continuing Education (CE) units for every two-year license renewal period. All contractor license holders need at least 8 hours of CE, consisting of 3 hours of Business Law and Practices (only available from the CCB) and 5 hours of Series A courses. Series A are courses in business management as well as safety and codes. Series B are trade specific courses, including energy efficiency. Years of experience under a different license count toward the 6 years. An additional 8 hours of classes (Series A or Series B) are required if the license has been held for less than 6 years. For more information about CE, how many hours to complete, and who is exempt from CE, please see Part 1Blueprint-Hammer-Hard-Hat-vertical_000009864093XSmall-219x300

Residential and commercial contractors can find courses in the CCB course catalog. This catalog includes both CCB and approved non-CCB classes. Some classes are available not only in person, but also through self-study and online. To register for CCB online services, including online classes, visit the online services page

Residential contractors must take courses from the CCB course catalog. The education providers report the completed class hours to the CCB, then the CCB will verify the hours at the time of license renewal. Commercial contractors can use the catalog as a resource and take classes elsewhere if desired. Completed classes must kept track of, then the contractor must certify at license renewal time that the requirements have been fulfilled.

For contractors that are licensed for both residential and commercial construction, the requirements must be fulfilled for the residential CE and the commercial requirement. The hours taken for the residential CE requirement also apply to the commercial requirements.
